Memorable Textile

In each episode, I invite each guest at the end of our conversation to share a memorable textile or garment.

This segment is inspired from my years as an educator teaching textiles to fashion students. Students were prompted at the beginning of the term to bring in a memorable garment and introduce themselves through this material artefact.

This exercise is as a creative and inclusive tool that is designed to assist in establishing meaningful connections by decolonising our relationship with fashion. It was a beautiful way to allow for personal and cultural stories to be shared in a safe space and in a less vulnerable way.

The simplicity of this exercise always generated unexpected outcomes and conversations which more often than not led to friendships and collaborations beyond the classroom and into industry.

We all share a connection to a memorable textile or garment. The inclusion of this exercise on the podcast continues to illuminate and expand upon what we value as individuals and how this serves as the connective tissue for embedding well being in a material community.

So I ask, what is your favourite textile or garment and why?
